June 9 2024 The Martinez Sturgeon scored 12 runs in the third inning and went on to defeat the Dublin Leprechauns 26-8 at Waterfront Park. Martinez collected 25 hits and did not commit an error while Dublin finished with 11 hits and one error.
Martinez broke open a scoreless game with its 12-run third inning, added seven runs in the fourth and four in the fifth, then capped the scoring with three runs in the seventh. Dublin scored twice in the fifth, five times in the sixth and once in the seventh, but could not overcome the early deficit.
Erik Estrada earned the win for Martinez after pitching a hitless inning with two strikeouts. Bibbs worked four innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out four. Dublin starter Brad Moreno took the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings.
Erik Whitfield led Martinez by going 6-for-6 with five runs and four RBIs. T. Best went 4-for-5 with four runs and five RBIs, while A. Curran drove in seven runs. Whitfield hit two home runs, Best hit one and Curran hit two. For Dublin, C. Evans went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI, while T. Bridges homered and drove in two runs and A. Stayte hit two home runs and finished with four RBIs.
