June 15 2023 The Martinez Sturgeon defeated the Dublin Leprechauns 16-6 at Waterfront Park, using a 14-hit attack and a 4-3 advantage in extra-base hits. Dublin finished with nine hits and one error while Martinez committed three errors.
Martinez took control early by scoring two runs in the first inning, four in the second and two in the third. The Sturgeon added four runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the eighth to build a 16-4 lead before Dublin scored twice in the ninth. Dave Kyriacou led Martinez with four hits and seven RBI, including a home run and two doubles. Eric Whitfield went 4-for-5 with four RBI and a double, while Sam Freedman hit a three-run homer and Paul Carreno added a two-run home run.
Nick Adgar scored four runs and drew three walks for Martinez, while Luke Johnson scored three times and stole a base. Dublin was led by Arnold Dominquez, who went 3-for-4, and Saul Razo, who collected two hits. Mark Jacob had two hits and two RBI, and Dublins scoring included a three-run first inning, one run in the fourth and two in the ninth.
Troy Whitty earned the win for Martinez after allowing four hits and four runs in five innings with three strikeouts and four walks. Gabriel Rojas followed with three scoreless innings and five strikeouts. Mike Rios took the loss for Dublin, surrendering 10 hits and 11 earned runs in five innings while striking out two.
